The Florence Y’alls have signed Ryle grad Evan Webster, who will get the start for the team on Tuesday.
Webster, a left-handed pitcher, spent the last five years at the University of Louisville. After going undrafted in the 2024 MLB Draft, he put pen to paper on Monday for the Y’alls to start his professional career.
He had a successful career as a Cardinal, posting a 14-8 record with a 4.11 ERA in 179.2 innings pitched. He went 5-3 in the 2024 season with a 4.18 ERA in 15 starts, striking out 62 to 20 walks in 71 innings pitched. He was mainly a reliever for Louisville during his collegiate career, but made 15 of his career 18 starts in 2024.
Webster graduated from Ryle in 2019 and was a three-year letterman for the Raiders. He was ranked as the No. 17 overall player in Kentucky for the 2019 class as well as the top left-handed pitcher in the state, according to Prep Baseball Report. As a senior, Webster went 5-3 with a 2.45 ERA, collecting 102 strikeouts while hitting .342 with 32 RBIs. The 102 strikeouts in a season is a program record.
Webster’s start on Tuesday kicks off a 10-game homestand that begins with a doubleheader against Evansville. He’ll get the ball in the first game that starts at 5:42 p.m.
Richardson named Player of the Week
New Richmond, Ohio native Zade Richardson was awarded Frontier League Player of the Week for games played July 19-21. Richardson went 5-for-8 for the Y’alls over the weekend with two RBI and three runs scored. He currently leads the team in batting average with a .330 average.
It was the second time Richardson has won the award this season, helping the Y’alls sweep Lake Erie in a three-game set.
In game one, Richardson went 2-for-2 with two hit-by-pitches, a walk, and a run scored, reaching in all five plate appearances. He followed that performance up by playing hero in game two. Richardson launched the go-ahead home run in the seventh finishing with a 2-for-3 line with two RBIs, a run scored, and another walk. In the finale, he added another double and played a phenomenal game defensively at first base.
The Y’alls are currently 26-33 on the year, 12.5 games back of first place Washington in the West Division. They sit eight games out of a final playoff spot in the division with 37 games remaining in the regular season
